David Hennigar was born in 1981 on the east coast of Canada in Truro, Nova Scotia. Drawing since the age of eight, he went on to study at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003. Wanting to combine his artistic ability with computers, he then graduated from the Computer Animation program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario.

Having a love for the outdoors and a curiosity for a mountainous landscape, he made the move to BC in 2005, and now resides on Vancouver Island with his wife and daughter. Currently working as a 3D Visualization Artist for a design studio in Vancouver, he enjoys painting, biking, and skiing in his free time.

His acrylic paintings have been heavily influenced by his own photographs and surroundings, from Vancouver's eroding downtown east side to the seasoned bark of the giant sequoias in Northern California. Attacking the canvas as a whole, David is able to build rugged landscapes and portraits with an unnatural style of photorealism. He challenges this style with free-flowing brush strokes, and sometimes heavy use of the pallet knife. With this approach, he gathers a sense of realism with a sculpted, man-made impression on the canvas.

David has been the recipient of a Fine Arts Bursary, and received an Honourable Mention for the 2003 Muriel Hewson Philp Prize for Drawing. His work has also been displayed at art galleries in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia.
